IBM has opened its new India Client Experience Center in Mumbai, creating a direct pathway for Indian businesses to access quantum computing expertise alongside AI and hybrid cloud technologies. The tech giant signed a Letter of Intent with the Government of Maharashtra build to explore quantum computing collaboration opportunities across the state.

The partnership addresses India’s National Quantum Mission objectives while strengthening Maharashtra’s position as a technology hub. Shri Devendra Fadnavis, Chief Minister of Maharashtra, emphasized the strategic importance during the inauguration.

“With AI, quantum computing, and semiconductors, we are building a Viksit Maharashtra and Viksit Bharat,” Fadnavis stated. “These technologies can accelerate sustainability and efficiency across sectors, creating new opportunities for growth and progress. Through our collaboration with IBM, we will harness quantum innovation to transform lives, while building a skilled talent pool to democratize its benefits and make them accessible to every citizen of the state.”

Government Partnership Framework

The LOI outlines specific collaboration areas between IBM and Maharashtra’s government. IBM will provide insights and expertise for the state’s quantum ecosystem development, including workshops and skills development programs in quantum technologies.

Business Access and Technology Portfolio

The Mumbai center offers immersive experiences across IBM’s full technology portfolio. Indian businesses can now access AI solutions like the WatsonX platform, cybersecurity, data automation, and hybrid cloud services with local consulting-led transformation support.

Hans Dekkers, General Manager of IBM Asia Pacific, explained the commitment:

“IBM India Client Experience Centre reinforces our commitment to helping advance India’s journey in AI, hybrid cloud, and quantum computing. Our interest in helping the Government of Maharashtra build its vibrant quantum ecosystem exemplifies our commitment.”

The center sits within IBM’s new Mumbai offices, serving as a collaboration space for IBM experts, clients, and partners. This physical presence enables direct engagement between quantum specialists and Indian businesses seeking transformation solutions.

Market Impact and Ecosystem Development

The center democratizes access to advanced quantum technologies previously available only through remote consultation. Maharashtra businesses benefit from government support combined with IBM’s expertise, positioning the state as a quantum computing hub in Asia.

Quantum computing represents a significant technological shift requiring specialized knowledge and infrastructure. The Mumbai facility addresses these barriers by providing local access to quantum expertise and development resources.

IBM’s consulting expertise, combined with Maharashtra government support, enables Indian businesses to fast-track quantum transformation journeys. The collaboration ensures skill development programs reach more businesses across the state, building local quantum capabilities.

The initiative strengthens India’s quantum ecosystem while creating opportunities for both startups and established enterprises to explore quantum applications in their sectors.
