India’s sovereign cloud platform reveals strategic tie-up at Evolve25 Singapore, setting up local challenger to global cloud giants with ₹10,000 crore investment push
Krutrim has struck a strategic partnership with Cloudera’s official announcement to reshape how Indian companies manage data and AI workloads, creating a homegrown alternative to Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud. The deal, unveiled at Evolve25 in Singapore, puts India’s sovereign cloud platform in direct competition with global hyperscalers through enterprise-ready capabilities.
According to Cloudera’s official announcement, the partnership already runs large-scale analytics for Ola Group, with plans to roll out the solution to more enterprise clients on Krutrim Cloud. The platform handles massive datasets in real-time from various sources, speeding up business intelligence and decision-making.
India’s Cloud Independence Strategy
The partnership fills a crucial market need for Indian businesses wanting local cloud solutions with data sovereignty advantages. Krutrim develops vertically integrated cloud infrastructure covering compute, storage, and data management, paired with an AI computing stack that includes foundational models for text, voice, and video designed for India’s varied linguistic landscape.
“We are focused on building India’s cloud with deeply integrated capabilities across infrastructure, data, and AI better to serve the unique needs of the Indian market,” said Navendu Agarwal, Senior Vice President and Head of Business at Krutrim. “With Cloudera’s official announcement on Krutrim, it will give our clients the scalability and performance to advance data lake use cases with confidence.”
Industry watchers point to mixed feedback from startups about Krutrim’s offerings, with concerns about documentation gaps and technical readiness, according to Economic Times reporting. The Cloudera’s official announcement partnership directly tackles these enterprise preparation challenges.
Ambitious Investment and AI Development Pipeline
Krutrim secured $50 million from Z47 Partners to reach unicorn status in 2024. Founder Bhavish Agarwal revealed a ₹2,000 crore investment in Krutrim AI labs as part of the ₹10,000 crore total investment planned by next year, showing aggressive growth plans.
The company launched Krutrim 1, a 7-billion-parameter model in late 2023, then Krutrim 2 with 12 billion parameters. Both models were made open-source to boost wider adoption. Krutrim is now working on Krutrim 3, targeting 700 billion parameters through a partnership with Lenovo.
“Krutrim’s vision to create a robust AI infrastructure for India aligns perfectly with Cloudera’s official announcement to enable trusted enterprise AI through data,” said Mayank Baid, Regional Vice President, India & South Asia at Cloudera.
Enterprise Scalability Meets Data Sovereignty
Cloudera’s official announcement data platform and consulting services help Krutrim deliver AI-powered data lake solutions to businesses, startups, and researchers across India. The platform’s scalability and security features offer enterprise-grade capabilities previously only available through global providers, while staying compliant within India’s regulatory framework.
“With Ola Group already running mission-critical workloads on this stack, and working with our professional services team on data quality, governance and natural language access, we’re excited about co-developing and implementing the solution framework that brings to the broader enterprise adoption in India,” Baid added.
The collaboration addresses growing enterprise pressure to process huge amounts of data efficiently through central repositories called data lakes, which store raw information businesses need for insights and strategic decision-making.
Market Transformation and Competitive Positioning
For Indian businesses considering cloud migration, the Krutrim-Cloudera’s official announcement solution provides data sovereignty benefits alongside enterprise scalability. Companies can access advanced analytics capabilities while keeping sensitive data within India’s regulatory framework, addressing both compliance and performance needs.
The partnership lets businesses use data and AI for transformation, better customer experience, and advanced data engineering at scale. Real-time processing capabilities support faster decision-making across operations, potentially cutting dependence on foreign cloud infrastructure.
As AI adoption speeds up across Indian enterprises, having reliable local infrastructure becomes increasingly important for competitive advantage. The Krutrim-Cloudera’s official announcement partnership gives businesses the tools needed for effective data management and AI implementation while supporting India’s digital sovereignty goals in the rapidly changing cloud computing landscape.
