Delhi authorities have mobilized India’s largest Independence Day security operation, deploying over 20,000 personnel with AI-powered monitoring systems to protect Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Red Fort address.
Comprehensive Security Deployment
The massive operation combines Delhi Police, paramilitary forces, National Security Guard (NSG), Special Protection Group (SPG), and Military Intelligence across the national capital. Entry points face strict monitoring with thorough vehicle checks at all major border crossings.
“From a security point of view, Delhi Police have made all arrangements for the 15th August celebrations. Clubbing Delhi Police and other paramilitary services together, more than 20,000 personnel are deployed,” Joint Commissioner Madhur Verma told ANI.
AI-Powered Surveillance Network
Delhi Police have installed artificial intelligence-enabled facial recognition systems and automatic number plate recognition technology. The Abandoned Object Detection system triggers instant alarms to control rooms when unattended items appear near Red Fort.
More than 800 CCTV cameras monitor key locations while two special control rooms track live footage from 426 cameras. Anti-drone systems are active with snipers positioned on rooftops for additional coverage.
“This time, we have used video analytics in CCTV cameras–facial recognition system, abandoned object detection, person count and more. Even at the parking facility, under-vehicle scanning systems are being used,” Verma explained.
Multi-Layered Protection Strategy
Authorities implemented multi-layered security arrangements at Red Fort, taking access control 20 days ahead with regular anti-sabotage checks. For the first time, under-vehicle surveillance systems scan five parking areas for explosives, weapons, or contraband.
Over 14,000 security and traffic personnel are deployed according to The Economic Times, with surveillance through drone detection systems, facial recognition cameras, and automated number plate recognition monitoring the venue and surrounding areas.
Traffic and Commercial Restrictions
Commercial vehicles cannot enter Delhi at border points from 10 PM on August 14 until the event concludes. Around 25,000 people are expected to attend the Red Fort Independence Day event.
Delhi Traffic Police issued strict instructions restricting commercial vehicles while maintaining smooth vehicular movement. More than 11,000 security personnel from paramilitary forces and special commandos deploy alongside 3,000 traffic police personnel.

Headcount cameras track crowd numbers while devices flag unattended or suspicious objects. District police units conduct foot patrolling in markets, metro stations, bus terminals, and public gathering points.
